Palau High School Juniors Successfully Complete Career Mentoring Program at the Office of the President

Two 11^th Grade Palau High School students, Ms. Ayanna Ramarui and Mr. Kobe Kertou, have successfully completed a week-long Career Mentoring Program at the Office of the President from April 17-21, 2017.

Ms. Ramarui and Mr. Kertou, both Liberal Arts majors at PHS were exposed to the inner workings and day-to-day operations of the office through the guidance and support of the administrative staff. The students were given an opportunity to learn about the different sections of the Office of the President including the role the office plays in the government and within the community through a hands-on experience.

“It’s been a blast!” exclaimed Mr. Kertou of his experience during the past week. Mr. Kertou, who plans to pursue a degree in political science following high school expressed, “During my mentoring week at the Office of the President, I learned many things. But one thing I’ll never forget is everyone’s warming hospitality. All I can say is thank you.” Among the list of things he and Ms. Ramarui learned is the different components that make up the whole of the office, including the communication and media team and the legal team that they were previously unaware of. Additionally, these young students were also introduced to a variety of fields from administrative and secretarial work to logistics.

Like Mr. Kertou, Ms. Ramarui plans to pursue a degree in political science. Their mutual interest in political science and government affairs is the reason behind their placement at the Office of the President. “Mentoring at the Office of the President was an experience I will never forget. I’ve learned so much from the staff and also had the opportunity to meet people in different sections of the office. I want to say thank you for giving me the opportunity to work in the office,” expressed Ms. Ramarui.

Chief of Staff Secilil Eldebechel encouraged the students to work hard and excel in their studies as well as take advantage of the many scholarship opportunities available.

President Tommy E. Remengesau, Jr. and members of his staff would like to express appreciation to Ms. Ramarui and Mr. Kertou for their attention, dedication and hard work during the course of their mentoring program, and encourages young Palauans to shine academically beyond high school.
