This is a Special Weather Update from the National Emergency Management Office in cooperation with the National Weather Service informing the public that the Tropical Depression Jelawat is moving West-Northwest at 8 mph with maximum sustained winds of 35 mph.
Tropical Depression Jelawat is now located about 250 miles East-Southeast of Kayangel and 260 miles East of Koror.
Tropical Storm Warning for Kayangel Remains in Effect
Tropical Storm Warning for Koror is now Cancelled.
Tropical Depression Jelawat is slowly strengthening and is expected to pass North of Kayangel later tonight. Winds and rainfall have toned down to 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 30 mph with rainfall of 1 to 2 inches today through Tuesday. Dangerous levels of sea and surf conditions will continue until later this evening, and storm surge is no longer a threat to Palau at this time. The public is reminded to secure any loose items around their residences and to take precaution for possible flooding, landslides/mudslides and debris.
NEMO and the National Weather Service will continue to monitor weather conditions and will update the public accordingly.
