The Republic of Palau recently hosted a successful Palau-Japan Trade, Investment and Tourism Seminar, the first seminar of its kind, from December 4-5, 2018 welcoming one of the biggest trade mission dispatched by the Japan Government in the Pacific Asia region. Led by Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Norikazu Suzuki, the group forged ties with local business owners and gained better understanding of doing business in Palau during the two-day seminar.
The seminar provided an opportunity and platform for business partnership discussions in the areas of shipping, transportation, agriculture, aquaculture, renewable energy, tourism, construction, machinery, fisheries, manufacturing among others.
In his remarks during the opening day of the seminar, President Remengesau said he hoped to see increased economic cooperation and partnerships between Palau and Japan, and urged local businesses to use the opportunity to explore opportunities with their Japanese counterparts.
The second day was devoted to information sharing and exchange with Japanese company executives meeting with dozens of established local business representatives and start-up company officials eager to learn from the successful companies, including several young entrepreneurs venturing into the business world for the first time.
Both sides hope to make the seminar a regular event with consideration of rotating the event between Palau and Japan on as a way to strengthen economic development ties between the two close allies.
