Republic of Palau and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) execute Grant Agreement towards Construction of National Landfill
Following a successful meeting between the National Government, Aimeliik State Government and JICA during the 8th Pacific Islands Leaders Meeting (PALM 8) in Japan, Minister of State Faustina Rehuher-Marugg, MPIIC Minister Charles Obichang, and JICA Resident Representative Mr. Nobuaki Miyata signed the Grant Agreement on May 28, 2018 making available approximately $12 million (JPY 1,311,000,000) in JICA grant funding towards the National Landfill to be built in the State of Aimeliik.
With the site of the landfill secured in Ongerarekieu, Aimeliik, initial administrative work is to begin within one month after signing of the contract including consulting services, procurement of equipment, and ultimately the construction of the new national landfill. The JICA Grand funding is available from May 28, 2018 until July 31, 2022.
