Press Release: President Remengesau Accredits Second Ambassador of Qatar to Palau

On May 8, 2017, President Tommy E. Remengesau, Jr. formally accepted and accredited Ali Ibrahim A. I. Al-Malki as the second non-resident Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Qatar to the Republic of Palau during a presentation of credentials ceremony held at the Capitol Building in Ngerulmud, Melekeok.

In welcoming Ambassador Al-Malki to Palau’s diplomatic corps, President Remengesau extended his commitment to work closely with the State of Qatar to explore ways for collaboration and cooperation, stating “We will work together to nurture and further enhance our existing bilateral relations and to overcome the many global challenges we face today. Be assured of Palau’s commitment to work closely with Qatar on matters of mutual concern and those relating to global peace and stability.”

With a thriving fishing industry and a growing renewable energy sector, President Remengesau expressed hope for both nations to work in partnership towards addressing challenges of energy security and climate change.

Furthermore, as the nation moves forward in development of its soccer program and incorporation into the national sports framework, President Remengesau expressed Palau’s support and success of Qatar’s hosting of the 2022 World Cup. “We support Qatar’s hosting of a successful World Cup that will further strengthen global sports solidarity, peace and friendship.”

Ambassador Al-Malki conveyed greetings and well wishes to President Remengesau from His Highness the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamas Al-Thani, and further extended Qatar’s commitment to enhance Palau-Qatar relations, cooperation and friendship.

Ambassador Al-Malki holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Law from the University of Cairo, a Master’s Degree in International Law from the University of Lelle Nord de France and a Diploma in diplomatic advisory practice.
