President Remengesau Prepares for the 22nd Micronesian Islands Forum
President Tommy E. Remengesau, Jr. and the Palau delegation is set to depart to Guam on April 29 to attend the 22nd Micronesian Islands Forum (MIF) previously known as the Micronesian Chief Executives’ Summit to be held from May 1-3, 2017.
From April 27-28, the nine standing committees comprising of officials from the Republic of Palau, the Federated States of Micronesia and the states of Yap, Kosrae, Pohnpei and Chuuk, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, Guam and the CNMI, are holding preliminary meetings to review each respective jurisdiction’s activities since the last meeting, propose action plans for the next year and formulate recommendations for the Chief Executives’ support and endorsement. Action plans formulated from these preliminary meetings including the committee presentations to the Chief Executives will be incorporated into the MIF Communique to be reviewed, approved and signed by the Chief Executives’ on May 2.
Preliminary meetings for the Micronesia Regional Invasive Species Council, the Micronesian Challenge Committee, the Regional Workforce Development Council, the Renewable Energy Committee, the Pacific Island Regional Recycling Initiative Committee, the Regional Transportation Committee, the Regional Tourism Council, the Regional Health Committee, and the Communications Committee are being conducted simultaneously throughout various venues on Guam.
Palau’s Committee members continue to work diligently with counterparts in the region to finalize all necessary documents and reports ahead of the MIF opening on May 1 at the Hyatt Regency Guam.
The Micronesian Islands Forum is rotated annually between its jurisdictional members to strengthen regional initiatives, establish closer ties and enhance coordination efforts.
