President Remengesau Accredits Norwegian Ambassador Bjorn Jahnsen

On May 30, President Tommy E. Remengesau, Jr. accredited His Excellency Bjorn Staurset Jahnsen as the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Norway to the Republic of Palau.

At the presentation of credentials ceremony held at the Capitol in Ngerulmud, President Remengesau acknowledged and commended Norway’s strong cooperation and partnership as demonstrated in the removal of unexploded ordnances (UXOs) through the Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA) project.  

He also acknowledged and conveyed his appreciation of Norway’s leadership on oceans, and further expressed Palau’s pride in sharing co-chairmanship with Norway in the High Level Panel for a Sustainable Ocean Economy. Additionally, President Remengesau expressed looking forward to participating in the 2019 Our Ocean Conference in Norway later this year, and to work hand-in-hand with Norway to push ocean agendas forward.  

Ambassador Jahnsen expressed his commitment to strengthen cooperation and partnership between Norway and Palau on ocean and other areas of mutual importance. Ambassador Jahnsen, an avid scuba diver, previously held positions under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Oslo, including as Official Spokesperson and served several diplomatic assignments in Mexico, London and Madrid.

The ceremony was witnessed by Paramount Chief Ibedul Yutaka M. Gibbons, Paramount Chief Reklai Raphael B. Ngirmang, Chief Justice Arthur Ngiraklsong, HOD Vice Speaker Lucio Ngiraiwet, Senator Aric Nakamura, Dirrauudes Magdalena Rudimch Ngirmang, Minister Faustina Rehuher-Marugg, Minister Sinton Soalablai, Minister Charles Obichang, Minister Elbuchel Sadang, Ambassador Jahnsen’s wife Sandra and their two sons, and members of his Embassy staff.
