2018 President’s Day Junior Anglers Fishing Derby Program Successful

On Friday, June 1st, the Office of the President in collaboration with the Ministry of Community and Cultural Affairs, the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Natural Resources, Environment and Tourism and in partnership with Blue Bay Petroleum, Sea Passion Hotel, the Embassy of the Republic of China, Koror State Government, the Palau National Marine Sanctuary (PNMS), and the Friends of the PNMS hosted a successful President’s Day Junior Anglers Fishing Derby Program.

More than 40 young fishers aged 9 to 14 years old registered and participated in the catch and release program where they each learned how to set up their fishing lines, hooks, baits and weights as they prepared for a day of fun and fishing in the sun.

Participants were awarded based on the total weight caught. 9-year old Landisang Ngiramengior placed first with a prize of $100.00 and a glass trophy for 7 lbs, 12 oz of total weight caught.  12-year old Share Isebong Shmull placed second with a prize of $80.00 for 7 lbs, 9 oz of total weight caught. 12-year old Kenrad Eberdong placed third with a prize of $60.00 for 6 lbs, 13 oz of total weight caught. 14-year old Debante Sikong came in at fourth place for a prize of $40.00 for 6 lbs, 5 oz of total weight caught and 13-year old Bernize Gepty came in at fifth place with a prize of $20.00 for a total of 5 lbs, 12 oz of weight caught.
